Inhumans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">According to Giorgio Agamben, Beau Brummell\u2019s lack of intentionality while tying his neck-cloth (<a href=\"https:\/\/locusterribilis.com\/en\/2026\/01\/30\/\u00a7-2-7-vinetas-1\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"525\" target=\"_self\">2.7<\/a>) became an inspiration for some of the most important modern poets who did not hesitate to consider him their master. From this point of view, Brummell can \u201cclaim as his own discovery the introduction of chance into the artwork so widely practiced in contemporary art.\u201d<sup data-fn=\"a3b74ef7-13cc-425e-bac2-24580345209d\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#a3b74ef7-13cc-425e-bac2-24580345209d\" id=\"a3b74ef7-13cc-425e-bac2-24580345209d-link\" target=\"_self\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even more important is Brummell\u2019s contribution to a certain vein of inhumanity present in avant-garde poetry, of which Agamben makes a list of examples:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">What is new about modern poetry is that, confronted with a world that glorifies man so much  the more it reduces him to an object, modern poetry unmasks the humanitarian ideology by making rigorously its own the <em>boutade<\/em> that Balzac puts in George Brummell\u2019s mouth: \u201cnothing less resembles man than man.\u201d Apollinaire perfectly formulated this proposition in <em>Les peintres cubistes<\/em>, where he writes that \u201cabove all, artist are men who wish to become inhuman.\u201d Baudelaire\u2019s antihumanism, Rimbaud\u2019s call \u201cto make one\u2019s soul monstrous,\u201d the marionette to Kleist, Lautr\u00e9amont\u2019s \u201cIs it a man or a stone or a tree,\u201d Mallarm\u00e9\u2019s \u201cI am truly decomposed,\u201d the arabesque of Matisse, that confuses human figures and tapestries. \u201cMy ardor is rather of the order of the dead and the unborn\u201d from Klee, \u201cthe human doesn\u2019t come into it\u201d of Gottfried Benn,  to the \u201cnacreous snail\u2019s pace\u201d of Eugenio Montale and \u201cthe head of the head of medusa and the Robot\u201d of Paul Celan, all express the same need: there are still figures beyond the human!<sup data-fn=\"2a80ed59-ca46-49d6-8631-ac7148a7b8c2\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#2a80ed59-ca46-49d6-8631-ac7148a7b8c2\" id=\"2a80ed59-ca46-49d6-8631-ac7148a7b8c2-link\" target=\"_self\">2<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Among the set of figures that lie beyond the human also are literary and cinematographic characters like the vampire, the werewolf and the zombie. The latter, quite literally a \u201cliving dead,\u201d allows us a glimpse of the relationship of the <em>homo sacer<\/em> with Agamben\u2019s list. The <em>sacred man<\/em> is the inhuman in the legal sphere. A legal representation of that which cannot be represented legally and which acquires a monstrous appearance in the imaginary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of this lineage, the dandy act as the hinge between the world of the human and the inhuman, between the work of art and the commodity.
