§ 9.22.2. Aviva Drescher’s prosthesis

During sixth season’s final episode dinner of the The Real Housewives of New York City, Aviva Drescher, one of the main characters of the season, was harassed by her co-stars for having refused to go on trips with them on several occasions; she was accused of being phony and of faking illnesses. As the tone of the accusations escalated Aviva decided to put a halt to the situation. From under the table she removed her artificial leg which she slammed on it and then hurled to the center of the room:

“The only thing artificial or fake about me is this!” she yelled slamming her prosthesis on the table. “Everything else is real! I’m sick of being called fake!”

Sensationalist to boot, this eccentricity went down in history as one of the most surprising and supposedly genuine antics, until her ex-husband Harry Dubin, revealed that Aviva had told him of her plans beforehand: “Harry, you gotta help me! I'm going to throw my leg on national TV and you pick me up and carry me out of the scene and tell them what kinda people they are.” Metaphorically speaking, with Aviva’s prosthesis, Beau Brummell’s “favorite leg” is definitively uncoupled from the dandy (2.8).
